Robert Hadlock is a weeknight anchor on KXAN News 36 at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Hadlock joined KXAN in August of 1990. In 1998 he made local television history becoming the first Austin reporter to report from Cuba. Based at NBC News headquarters in Havana, Hadlock filed live reports on the visit of Pope John Paul II. The coverage included in-depth reports on life in Cuba, the last outpost of Communism in the western hemisphere. Hadlock's crew also arranged a unique family reunion. An Austin man, who had fled Cuba on a raft, was able to see his family in Havana for the first time in nearly 4 years. His wife and two children were brought to the NBC studios in Havana for an emotional reunion. It happened live and only on News 36.
Since coming to News 36, Hadlock has anchored coverage of every state and local election. He has reported from three national political conventions. In November of that same year he reported on ceremonies marking the 30th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas. He has also reported on hundreds of stories of importance to Central Texas viewers too numerous to mention here.
During Hadlock's tenure at KXAN-TV, he has received the "Best Newscast" award from the Texas Associated Press in 1992, 1993 and 1994. In 1995, Hadlock was chosen "Best News Anchor" by the staff of the Austin Chronicle newspaper.
