Sonta Henderson joined KXAN in the spring of 1998. You'll often see Sonta
reporting "live" from the Travis County Courthouse, but she loves to "mix
it up" on many types of stories. Sonta was recently recognized by the Texas
Associated Press for her "Continuing Coverage" of a Triple Homicide Trial.
The award-winning journalist says "working the beat" and meeting people is
the best part of the job.
Sonta was born and raised in Bastrop, Texas and has always been interested
in television. She earned a B.A. in Mass Communications from Southwest
Texas State University in 1993. Determined to "break" into the broadcast
industry, Sonta had internships at KVUE 24 and KTBC-TV.
In 1994, Sonta worked as a Probation Officer in an all-male restitution
facility. She was the Lifeskills Coordinator and proudly notes during her
short tenure more inmates received their General Education Diplomas than
ever before. It wasn't until 1995 that Sonta landed her first television
job. She was hired as a reporter for KLST-TV in San Angelo, Texas. She then
moved to Waco where she first worked as a producer/anchor for KCEN-TV and
then as a reporter for KWTX-TV.
Sonta was married to her high school sweetheart in 1997 and says her
husband, L.B., is very supportive of her television career. When not
working, she likes to spend time with her husband, sister, and entire
family. Her hobbies include reading, watching sports, and shopping!
