Shawn Rutherford

Shawn Rutherford Shawn joined the News 36 First Warning Weather Team in November 1998 as weekend weather anchor, and is now the weather anchor for the weekday morning show, Firstcast. Prior to KXAN, Shawn worked at KAVU-TV in Victoria, Texas as the lead weather anchor.

During his tenure at KAVU, his duties included "beefing up" the weather office with better tools for forecasting and on-air presentation. His efforts were necessary as the local National Weather Service office was closed from government cut-backs leaving KAVU as the only local source for weather information for 90 miles.

Aside from anchoring duties, Shawn re-engineered and replaced the old weather office equipment, built video servers for news and sports graphics and created new graphics for the news, weather and sports departments for the Victoria ABC, FOX, and Telemundo affiliates (co-owned.) Other duties included engineering repair, acquisition, and installation of equipment for the broadcasting efforts.

While anchoring was his daytime passion, Shawn also taught Computer Networking classes for the local school system, and was a board member for Hospice of South Texas.

Born and raised in Texas, Shawn is a long time resident of South Texas. When he's not behind the desk in the First Warning Weather Office, Shawn enjoys time with his wife Kathy, and young son, Logan.

Mountain biking, and spending time on the family ranch in Goliad, are among his other activities.
