Food For Thought
How did your favorite restaurant score with the health inspector?
Three Travis County restaurants scored below 60 this week with the health inspectors.
Kismet Cafe, a Mediterranean Restaurant near the UT campus, ran into some problems with the food inspector with a 53 out of 100. Aside from two temperature violations:
The inspector found a roach in the kitchen
rodent droppings in the service area
and food was being stored uncovered on the floor.
Camino Real also didn't make the grade scoring a 52 on a recent inspection. Aside from 15 points deducted for temperature problems:
Bleach was stored with the food
the soda gun was dirty
And there was uncovered food in the refrigerator.
Finally, La Hacienda Market on East Riverside scored 50 out of 100. Aside from 3 temperature violations:
The inspector also found an employee's uncovered drink sitting on the food prep counter
and there was food stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler.
KXAN-TV was unable to reach anyone at the restaurants that scored below 60. Kismet got a 93 on the follow-up. Camino Real got a 72. The La Haceinda Market scored a 90 two days later.
If you have a complaint about a restaurant, you call the health department at 469-2015.
